AFL ROUND 13

FREMANTLE DOCKERS VS GOLD COAST SUNS

SATURDAY JUNE 12, 2.15 PM, OPTUS STADIUM, PERTH

Fremantle host the Suns in one of just 2 games on Saturday, as the AFL is locked into bye rounds, and all the Melbourne teams are housed in other areas, to avoid the latest breakout of Covid-19.  Fremantle are a fringe top 8 contender, at that theme seems set to continue throughout the season, as they are 11th and just 2 games out of the 8, following a tough 28-point loss against the Dogs in their most recent action.  Gold Coast had a bye, after they belted the Hawks by 37 points a fortnight ago, and are 4-7 13th, in need of a few wins to get themselves back into the top 8 hunt, before it is too late.  Clearing conditions, making it fine in Perth for Saturday will be welcome news for these players, as they prepare to entertain a crowd, in a stand-alone Saturday afternoon fixture, which is rare.

Gold Coast will take some confidence into this game, after the aforementioned win against Hawthorn, and the news that Rowell and Bowes are returning, after lengthy rehab stints.  Rowell gets his customary midfield starting position back and Bowes is a key half backline player, while Corbett the med-sub from last weekend, may well get the job again here.  Cox, Logue and superstar Fyfe are all injured for Fremantle, who are forced to blood two debutants, namely Brendon Walker and Joel Western who will feature on their bench.  Wilson is suspended in another blow, while Blakely is dropped and Watson the med-sub is not named yet, though Pearce returns at fullback, alongside Conca and Bewley gets another game from the bench for Fremantle.

Over in the east, in the early portion of the 2020 season, once resumed, the Suns were in white-hot form and were just able to defeat the Dockers by 13 points, but did not succeed in 2017, the last time these clubs met in Perth.  These clubs fortunes hinge on games like this, and currently neither are fancied to find a way into the 8, as Fremantle are $8 chances, and the Suns are $21.  Gold Coast, incredibly, are slight favourites to defeat a Dockers team that is struggling to overcome the torrid injury toll, as the Suns are $1.89 and the Dockers $1.93, while a point is the margin according to the markets.

PREDICTION: Suns have confidence and form, and players returning, enough for them to win by 15-20.

BETTING TIP: $2.33 for the Suns to win by 1-39 is good value.
