UK SUPER LEAGUE ROUND 9

HULL KR VS SALFORD RED DEVILS

FRIDAY 11 JUNE, 7.45 PM, HULL COLLEGE CRAVEN PARK

Due to Covid-19 cases the original 4-game slate for Friday evening in the Super League is now reduced to 2 games, here, we have Hull KR attempting to consolidate a position in the top 6, by defeating Salford, who are just desperate for any kind of win.  KR last played almost 2 weeks ago, destroying Leigh, 40-16, and after Castleford’s loss to Hull FC find themselves in the top 6, with a real chance to get to within 1-competition point of Warrington and Hull FC for now at least.  Salford are 1-7 and ahead of only the winless Leigh Centurions, but are better than their last result, that saw Warrington obliterate them 62-18, and will have been working hard to improve on that effort here.  Cloudy and breezy conditions await in Hull for this fixture, that ought to be well attended, while distancing enough to concur with Covid protocols.

Hull KR have two big additions to their squad that was good enough to belt Leigh in their latest action, as George King and Mikey Lewis are named; King returning from injury and Lewis was recalled from his loan spell at York City.  The likes of Korbin Sims, Brad Takairangi, Kane Linnett and Ryan Hall are the vital cogs for Hull KR to be led and inspired by, if they want to take this opportunity to hold a top 6 position.  Salford have named Joe Burgess and he could well be in line to debut for the club, after moving over from Wigan in the off-season, and successfully rehabbing from injury.  Also returning to action for Salford, is 1st choice hooker, Andy Ackers and dominant forward when at his best Pauli Pauli.

KR edged Salford by just 2 points in their most recent clash, back in October 2020, as the boot of Ellis provided them with the competition points, after each team scored 4 tries, but will forever be remembered as the game that ended Mose Masoe’s career.  Despite their elevated position in the competition currently, KR are $101 chances of winning the title, and they will need to win against more credentialled teams than Salford to improve that number significantly, while Salford are $251, and 4th favourite to finish last, interestingly ahead of KR in that market.  Still, KR are favourites for this game, at their home ground, at $1.44 and -6.5 in the handicap market, while Salford are good chances here at $2.75.

PREDICTION: Salford will enjoy having a top hooker back and should trouble KR, even win by 6-8.

BETTING TIP: $4 is nice odds for Salford to win by 1-12.
