Queensland make one more trip across the ditch to finish the regular season of the inaugural Trans-Tasman trophy, where they will meet Wellington, who have to win here to stand a chance of playing in the Final.  Wellington were doing so well, but found the trip to Canberra, to face the Brumbies too much, as the long-time Australian powerhouse ended their unbeaten run 12-10, leaving them in need of other results to go their way, as Otago, Auckland and Canterbury remain unbeaten.  Queensland toiled hard but came up empty against Auckland in Brisbane last weekend, and now can only attempt to record a 2nd win, in a 5 game season here; Auckland won by 7.  Mild conditions await in Wellington, in what should be a cracking way to end the season, a mighty challenge for the Reds and a glimmer of hope for Wellington, if they can get the job done.

Asafo Aumua gets a start at hooker for Wellington, as he rotates again with Coles who is back to the bench, while Reed Prinsep gets a game at flanker, in the Canes only other forwards adjustment.  Cameron Roigard comes into the halves alongside Ruben Love for Wellington, while Wes Goosen returns on a wing, in an otherwise unchanged backline, ready to give their team some hope.  Queensland have named an unchanged forward pack after performing well in their last couple of games, in their home state.  Bryce Hegarty gets a chance in the halves this time around though, as O’Connor misses again, while Flook replaces Vunivalu who has a hamstring strain, tragically.

Having not met since 2018 due to schedules and Covid-19 cancellations, the last meeting between them probably bears little insights into this game’s result, but the Canes edged the Reds by 4 points at this venue.  Wellington are officially long-shots to win this title, at $101 and will rely on Australian upsets to see them into the Final, while the Reds are playing for form, and representative selection, as they are no chance of advancing, meaning this is their last game of the season.  The Canes are $1.20 and expected to win by about a dozen, say the handicap markets, while Queensland are $4.50 hopes, but clearly hampered by the O’Connor situation and Vunivalu’s hamstring.

PREDICITON: Wellington by 10.

BETTING TIP: $2.75 is nice odds for Queensland to keep the margin respectable (1-12).
