NRL ROUND 14

MANLY SEA EAGLES VS NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

FRIDAY JUNE 11, 6 PM, 4 PINES PARK, SYDNEY

On the back of a record Origin win for NSW, round 14 begins in Sydney, at the newly titled 4 Pines Park, in Brookvale, as they Cowboys head south to tackle Manly, in a game between two teams, that are in the top 8 battle.  Manly have been brilliant, on the back of the Trbojevic brothers and other forwards, and enjoyed a week off after their sole poor performance in the last month or two, against Newcastle, which has them 6th with a 6-6 record.  The Cowboys are in a similar boat, after a terrible start coupled with some fine tight wins in recent weeks, their most recent game was a scintillating 1-point win against the Warriors, leaving them with the same record as Manly in 7th.  Some wind could make it tricky conditions for these players, in otherwise good wintery weather, that should see a nice sized crowd.

Many questions surround the stars of Origin last night, and their participation in this game, though in all likelihood, the Trbojevic brothers will play, as will Holmes and Feldt, and Cherry-Evans.  The Cowboys have their main man back on deck after a suspension kept Taumalolo out of the Warriors game, so too Burr.  The only other change is the inclusion of Dearden who made the switch from Brisbane last week, while Luki and Dunn make way for Burr and Taumalolo.  Manly are also welcoming good players back to the fold, as Foran has recovered from his hand injury and Walker is on the bench, following a lengthy spell out with a hamstring issue.  Ben Trbojevic is fit again after satisfying the concussion protocols during Manly’s bye weekend.

In what has always been a lively rivalry between these clubs, Manly proved too good, back in round 11, 2020, winning 24-12 up in the north, as the likes of Jake Trbojevic and Addin Fonua-Blake proved too strong.  Manly are seemingly atop the pile of the teams that could be termed 2nd tier, below a clear top 5, as they are $1.30 chances to qualify for the Finals, while the Cowboys are $2.50 and equal 3rd favourite in that group to qualify for the 8.  Manly will bring home plenty of good morale after the Origin win, as Tom Trbojevic was best on field, while the Cowboys will be keen to get back to business.  Manly are solid $1.44 favourites for this game, though just 6 points better in the handicap market’s eyes, while the Cowboys are every chance of coming away with the win, at $2.80.

PREDICTION: Expect a strong Cowboys showing, but Manly win by 4-6.

BETTING TIP: $2.80 is good odds for Manly to win by 1-12.
