NRL ROUND 14

NZ WARRIORS VS MELBOURNE STORM

SUNDAY JUNE 13, 2 PM, CENTRAL COAST STADIUM, GOSFORD

The Warriors continue to play home games at Gosford for now, with the news that they will play a game or 2 towards the end of their season in Auckland, no doubt exciting their players, but for now they have the unenviable task of meeting Melbourne.  The Storm are legitimately outstanding and deserved 2nd favourites to win the NRL, but can now sniff an opportunity to join the Panthers atop the table, after Penrith’s hiccup against Cronulla on Friday evening, they beat Gold Coast without their Origin stars in round 13.  The Warriors enjoyed a weekend off, after a heartbreaking 1-point loss against the Cowboys in Townsville, and are 9th, but have an opportunity to jump back into the 8 here and now.  Sunday will be a stunning winter’s day at Gosford, without much wind at all, and no cloud, these conditions are perfect for rugby league.

Addin Fonua-Blake looks set to play for the Warriors, in a major boost as the Storm have one of the better packs in the competition, and the Warriors will need all the help they can get to match them.  Walsh, the excitement machine teenager is out suspended, meaning legendary Tuivasa-Sheck can return to his customary fullback position, while Kosi plays on the wing.  Welch will certainly not play for the Storm after being concussed in the Origin, but the likes of Grant, Kaufusi, Addo-Carr and Munster are all seemingly on track to play and boost the Storm no end.  Asofa-Solomona is out suspended for the Storm, while Reimis Smith successfully fought his judiciary charge and will line up in this game, in his usual centre position.

These clubs met on ANZAC Day in their traditional meeting, but it was a sorry affair for the Warriors, as the Storm slaughtered them 42-20, with the likes of Hynes, Munster and Addo-Carr leading the way.  Melbourne are now $3.40 chances of winning the title, and looking at least a strong chance of defending their title, while the Warriors are $67 in that market, but a chance of playing finals footy, which would be an achievement for the club.  Melbourne are $1.18 favourites to win this game, and expected to do so fairly comfortably, as they are -14.5 in the handicap market, while the Warriors are $5 hopes.

PREDICTION: Melbourne are looking good, and ought to handle the Warriors, by 10+, Walsh is a big out.

BETTING TIP: $3.40 is interesting odds for the Storm to win by 1-12, but no surprises if they won by more.
