TOP 14 FRENCH RUGBY PLAYOFFS

RACING 92 VS STADE FRANCAIS PARIS

FRIDAY JUNE 11, 8.45 PM, PARIS LA DAFENSE ARENA, NANTERRE

After 26 rounds of gruelling rugby, the top 6 now fight out what promises to be a thrilling play-off series, starting right here in the capital, with a derby, between Racing 92 and Stade Francais Paris, does it get any better than this?  Racing were strong all year long, and ultimately a little unlucky to finish 3rd with a 17-9 record, but come into this game after thrashing Brive 55-12, so ought to be fresh and ready.  Paris battled long and hard to score 6th position, as for much of the season they were mid-field but won matches when it mattered, and ended the regular season on a high beating Bayonne by 3, sending them into a relegation playoff with Biarritz tomorrow.  Warm weather is sure to test these clubs, as the temperatures for game-time are still well into the 20s, in otherwise perfect conditions.

Gomes-Sa gets the blindside prop starting assignment for Racing, in what looks to be their strongest front-row, also featuring Ben-Arous and Baubigny, while Boris Palu gets a game at flanker, as Mangene slides to the 8 jersey.  Diallo also gets the call to play blindside flanker for Racing, and Machenaud returns to starting duties in the halves alongside Russell.  Kakovin starts at prop for Paris, as Moses Emile moves to the bench, while Kouadio will play at lock, in the only other forwards starting adjustment.  Paris’ only other change in their starting fifteen from the team that held off Bayonne gamely, is Lapegue-Lafaye’s selection on the wing, as Veainu is not in the squad.

The results between these clubs were split this season, as Paris won the most recent game, at this venue, 35-29, while Racing pipped Paris by 2 in the fixture back in October, 27-25.  Teddy Thomas bagged a pair of tries, but ill discipline and penalty goals were what beat Racing back in May, as Segonds landed 7 penalty goals.  Paris are 6th favourite to win the title from here, justifiably, as they were the last team to secure qualification, at $26, while Racing are genuine contenders at $4.50.  Racing are strong $1.22 favourites to defeat their fierce rivals, Paris who are $4.33 chances, despite being just +9 in the handicap markets.

PREDICTION: Racing live for big games, have a quality team named, meaning this is their game to lose; Racing by 10.

BETTING TIP: $2.40 is good odds for Racing to send Paris home, knocking them out of the post-season, by 1-12.
